Project Manager, Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer

Led the CampStove 2 project from start to finish.

• Program Manager: was responsible for scoping the program, developing and maintaining the schedule and budget, preparing and presenting progress to management and managing daily tasks for other team members (Industrial Designer, Electrical Engineer, Combustion Engineer).

• Mechanical Engineer: was responsible for the conception, design, CAD, prototyping, iteration, DFM/DFA and post-tooling refinement of the product. In addition, led the technical effort of optimizing the thermo-electric generator system, which is the centerpiece of the stove.

• Manufacturing Engineer: was responsible for all communication with the contract manufacturer from initial quote negotiations through daily exchanges leading up to the start of manufacturing.

Successes: 

• On time, under budget and successfully launched (only 2017 product on time OR under budget) despite significant resource losses to other struggling product teams.

• ~10% COGS reduction from CampStove 1, despite the improvements.

• Optimized thermo-electric system delivers twice the power. Die cast one-piece aluminum heat probe replaces the 2-part brazed copper/aluminum original to save cost and weight.

• On-board battery to store energy generated while cooking for use later.

• Smart dashboard gives user live feedback and helps guide use.
